Plovdiv GuitArt Fest 2017 proudly presents the Cuban-born and Austria-based master performer and teacher of the classical guitar – Marco Tamayo! Mr. Tamayo, who the Italian newspaper La Stampa refers to as "the king of classical guitar", held a great performance at the Dramatic Theater Plovdiv on October 28th 2017. Mr. Tamayo is a preeminent figure in the classical guitar world as a winner of many international guitar competitions, and as a guest soloist in many concertos for guitar and orchestra.
Marco Tamayo is also a renowned professor of music at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg, a teacher at the Conservatory of Klangenfurt (Austria); a guest-professor at the Academy of Music in Gdansk (Poland); and until recently a professor at the Conservatory at the University of Sydney (Austrialia). His students enjoy successful international careers. The Cuban virtuoso is the Artistic Director of the Michele Pittaluga International Guitar Competition, in Alexandria, Italy. Mr.Tamayo is an honorary citizen of the cities Alexandria and Solero, Italy.
In 2014th, professor Tamayo creates Marco Tamayo Edition, and his newly published book „Essential Principles for the performance on the classical guitar” brings about a windchange in the pedagogical approach to teaching the classical guitar around the world. GuitArt festival was also planning to host a presention on the new book, coupled with a Q&A session with the maestro, but the event was canceled due to last minute schedule changes.
Mr. Tamayo plays on Simon Marty guitars and is an endorsee of the Savarez strings company, his preferred pack being Alliance Blue-Cantiga.
